Think Big, Work Small

Yesterday on my home from filming a video interview with one of my great coaches, I was listening to The Aladdin Factor by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. I was so engrossed by the message, totally missed my freeway on ramp. The point of this book is the power of asking; how asking increases your chances of success by 50%. If you don’t ask, you won’t get and if you do ask you have a 50% chance of getting what you asked for. Are you looking for a way to get more fit both financially and/or physically? If so, ask me and I will tell you how you can achieve both.

The other message was four words which completely described my philosophy of doing anything; creating a business, achieving and maintaining your ideal weight, living your dreams etc. We all have wonderful dreams and then decide there is no way to make them happen and give up on them. Often, that overwhelm comes from not breaking down that dream into small, manageable increments.

For example, my goal to release 187.5 pounds was mind blowing to me. I remember a time when my biggest fear was I would weigh over 150 pounds or weigh more than my husband. I would give my right arm to either weigh 150 or what Kevin weighs right now. Oh wait, it would take more than just my right arm. Instead I focus on small goals along the way.

The one I have been working on since April is to hit the 80 pounds gone mark. I am close and only have .9 pounds to go. When I moved my goal from 75 to 80 gone, it might not have seemed like much to others. To me it is moving forward one small goal at a time. Goals which when broken down are not mind blowing or overwhelming to think about.

We can not lose all the weight we want overnight, so why measure ourselves on the final goal. When I have passed the 80 pound mark, I am taking a big leap. My next goal will be 100 pounds gone. I normally do not set goals of 20 pounds at a time, since I seem to be some what of a slow loser. I just like the way this sounds and will do what it takes for how ever long it takes and then pick another one. (An interim goal along this path will be 93.75 pounds gone as that will mark my half way point.) So lots of things to look forward to even along the short term goal journey.

So the four words were “THINK BIG, WORK SMALL.” Don’t try to eat an elephant in one bite, work on eating one frog of it a day.

I challenge you to write down one of your big dreams right now. Below list one step you can take and complete within the next 48 taking you in the direction of that goal; one step and one day at a time.

Michi’s Ladder – Tier 1: Cucumbers

The cucumber is believed native to India and evidence indicates that it has been cultivated in western Asia for 3000 years. From India it spread to Greece and Italy, where the Romans were especially fond of the crop and later into China. It was probably introduced into other parts of Europe by the Roman sand records of cucumber cultivation appear in France in the 9th century, England in the 14th century and in North America by the mid-16th century.

Though cucumbers were brought early from the Old World grown in many a garden and are mentioned in several eighteenth-century advertisements, nothing is found to be said about varieties until 1806, when M'Mahonin his Gardener's Calendar named eight all from the Old World. Modern cucumbers gradually evolved from these and other European varieties without planned hybridization or much selection until 1872when Tailby's hybrid was exhibited. After that, especially from 1880 to the present, much interest has been shown in breeding this vegetable. Most of the kinds now grown by gardeners and truckers have originated since 1900. Modern cucumbers are little like those listed by M'Mahon in 1806.

About Cucumbers

Cucumbers are 96% water. They age faster when stored for any length of time with tomatoes, melons or apples and at temperatures over 50 degrees. The cucumber’s smooth skin keeps the water in like a jug. The cucumber's flavor is in their seeds. Medium sized cucumbers with soft small seeds have better flavor. Botanically cucumbers are classed as fruit. They are one of the oldest vegetables cultivated for thousands of years in India and parts of Asia. Some people believed that cucumbers were poisonous and they used to scrape their skin with a fork to let the poisons out! Of course, cucumbers are not poisonous.

Cucumber Nutrition Info

The silica in cucumber is an essential component of healthy connective tissue which includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and bone. Cucumber juice is often recommended as a source of silica to improve the complexion and health of the skin, plus cucumber's high water content makes it naturally hydrating—a must for glowing skin. Cucumbers are also used topically for various types of skin problems, including swelling under the eyes and sunburn. Two compounds in cucumbers, ascorbic acid and caffeic acid prevent water retention, which may explain why cucumbers applied topically are often helpful for swollen eyes burns and dermatitis.
